Welcome to Cooking While I’m Driving and just like cooking, starting a new adventure such as a Blog takes the effort of Getting Started. So here I am beginning this adventure of helping people feed their families and themselves without stress and having fun. I feel that the last 30 years of my life has been driving, working and cooking. I hope you noticed I put driving first. As I drove my children and myself to and from school and various activities, I was and still am thinking about, “What are we going to eat?” I find now even when I’m alone I am still asking myself, “What am I going to eat?”
When I talk about getting started with cooking the first thing we need to think about is what are we going to eat this can also be a menu plan. If you are not sure where to get started think about what you cooked and what your family ate in the past month. I suggest writing on a calendar what you eat every night and then the next month mix it up and you have a new menu plan. Start to ask your family what they would like to eat.
I am going to give you suggestions here that have worked in my house but I hope you will comment and let me know what has worked in your home and what you are interested in. Next after meal planning is shopping, It would be very hard to cook a meal if we didn’t have the ingredients in our home. Start a shopping list either handwritten or make a note on your phone. I have 2 lists on my phone one for the local supermarket and one for the warehouse shopping. It’s great because all I do is indent the items I need. Very simple.
One of the easiest meals I find when we are on the go and don’t have time to think about planning is a roasted chicken from the local supermarket. Your sides can be a salad, corn, string beans or peas frozen or canned is good. I love applesauce with my chicken so if your family does, that is always a treat. Here you are, our first meal, Cooking While You’re Driving.
Applesauce is my favorite with chicken cooked any way or veal cutlets !!
I love applesauce too! I will post a recipe.
Never thought about having applesauce with chicken. Thanks that’s a good idea.
I’m so happy that I can introduce you to something new and different.
Hi Jane! I love the idea of making your grocery list and just indenting only the items you need on your list. See, before, I would always delete the items on my list to check them off after I’ve purchased them and then rewrite my list over again when it’s time to go back to the store. Sometimes I would even forget the name of a certain item I bought last time because I deleted it from my list before. Your idea is so much easier and simpler. Can’t believe I never thought of that lol. From now on I’m going to do what you suggested here in this post and just indent my list items that I need and un-indent them after I buy. It’s so hard trying to figure out what to make for dinner and trying to remember the name of that one good meal you had before but deleted from your list. Thank you so much for that!
Glad I can help.
